WHAT ANIMAL HAS THE FINEST WOOL
It is the Vicuña! Never heard of it? You're not alone.
VICUÑA FLEECE IS THE RAREST, MOST COSTLY AND LUXURIOUS NATURAL FIBER IN THE WORLD.
Vicuña fiber is finer than any other wool. That means that the fiber is softer, lighter and warmer than any other fiber on this earth. The fibers of Vicuña are so sensitive to chemical treatment that the fiber is usually used in its natural golden color.
The Vicuña will only produce about one pound of wool in a year. This opposed to the Alpaca which can give off fifteen pounds in the same time period.
The Vicuña does not take readily to domestication. It will jump fences and attempt to return to the wild.
The Vicuña produce the finest fiber in the world, which is why in the 19th century, it was hunted down practically to the point of extinction. Today the Vicuña is a protected species and numbers have increased substantially.
The Vicuña also has an uncanny ability to survive without water. It has even been referred to as a cameloid because of its likeness to a camel in its ability to survive in arid conditions.
